Guivry

Guivry

After their initial attack on 21 March 1918, the German advance continued to make such progress that at midday on 23 March the Heavies received orders for the whole battery (complete with wagon lines) to withdraw from around Villequer-Aumont and take up new positions near Guivry, about 6 kms to the west.

By 2pm the same day the whole Battery had passed clear of Guivry with the guns in action just behind the village. The Heavies were now involved in mobile warfare conditions, an arduous prospect in undulating country with guns weighing around 11,700 pounds (more than 5 tons).
