Vandelicourt

Vandelicourt

Continuing their withdrawal, which started on 23 March 1918 and had now covered more than 30 kms, the Heavies entered Vandelicourt around 4pm on 26 March 1918.

No sooner had the guns been positioned than orders were received to move to a fresh location at the top of the hill at L'Ecouvillon which was reached at 1am the following day after a very hard struggle up the steepest of hills. Having arrived at this new position the Battery was then met with fresh orders to return to Vandelicourt which was reached at 5.30am with men and horses exhausted.

Both men and horses were able to rest at Vandelicourt on 27/28 March 1918, after which orders were received to procede to an area west of Amiens to refit, a distance of nearly 120 kms which was covered in 6 days.
